Default installation, java problems, and still unable to download from v4update

Back to the original posting - Okay?
ISSUES 1
I have now been directed at least four times to the update site at v4 by
IE. However, the errors/whatever, will not allow downloading the normal way
OR from the catalog. That is, of course, in addition to the numerous times I
have manually tried after some supposed fix or work around has been tried.
In the catalog, it brings up the ACCEPT screen, which is accepted, and then
stalls/nothing. In standard or normal INSTALL is pressed then
stalls/nothing. Running software to check what is occurring: apparently code
is sent, but nothing happens.

If someone has an "IN" with Microsoft, you might suggest they put a link
directly to the files somewhere.

I appreciate the attempts to ensure that the OS is genuine, is the right
OS, and the right versions for both IE and the OS, but without these links,
those of us who find themselves unable to get the possible fixes we need, is
far more than merely irritating.

In that light, do these updates, perhaps, contain the fixes which might
allow us to again use the critical update service?

That question can be considered as an attempt to have someone post the
contents of these updates: 90???? (last two shown)

Okay, the last postings have now died, lost in the obscurity of thousands

of
postings. (constant problems ole32,shell32,other)

To keep it simpler to post any replies, I have assigned ISSUES. Please use
these for general comprehension purposes.

Issues 1 -Time to re-address the issues of inability to download using v4

in
either normal or from catalog for the 90???? critical updates.
Moreover, there are still the problems associated with java script (which
appears to be the v4 problem, and other sites which use java [IE
indicates/notes script errors]) and other issues (such as need to reload
(user and password) secure sites twice before entry is allowed [such as
hotmail/passport), and having to post to groups, such as this, via offline
entries.

Before recommending re-installing from scratch, I advise of the problems
associated with that. The major problem is that my program files dir is at
5.56 gig WITHOUT installer and IE installation/uninstallation files, e.g.
months of work to re-install all these programs, which ARE necessary for

the
various types of work that I do, some of which requires INSTANT responses.

Been directed to or have worked through most of the supposed fixes/work
arounds found here and elsewhere (such as Microsoft troubleshooter and
Knowledge base) regarding these issues; not stating I absolutely have, as
there are several hundred(?) suggested. Moreover, dealing with apparently
several different problems, I am getting the impression that some of these
fixes/work arounds may be causing additional problems. I needn't

re-address
the IE 6 issue, I hope.

Issues 2 - As an additional issue, I receive this error now when trying

to
install or reinstall programs, or upgrades to existing programs:
"An installation support file could not be installed. Interface not
registered." (such as when trying to re-install the Dreamweaver 6.0 to 6.1
upgrade [MX suite])

Issues 3 - As an aside, has anyone tried to install the missing dlls

called
by IE 6 to see if that corrects the errors? I do have XP available to
"borrow" these files from if that might be a viable fix. If so, how would
these files be registered, and will they cause new problems?

General aspects - So, guys and girls, what say? Let's keep this civil and
lucid, what are the best shots at fixing these problems WITHOUT several
months of apparent useless uninstallations and/or re-installations? [BTW -
thanks again Mae and others for the prior info, even if none of it helped]
