Default Mousetrail doesn't work

I don't haveTweakUI installed on the 98SE that I checked the registry
value changes for the cursor in, but you may want to give TweakUI a try.

The only change I see in the registry when selecting cursor trails is at:

Hkey_Local_Machine\config\0001\display\settings\
In the right pane:

Name column: mousetrails Value: 0

The value 0 is disabled and values from 2 thru 7 are enabled w/2 being
short and 7 long.

FWIW it doesn't appear to have any effect here either. Even though the
values change accordingly it doesn't appear to make any difference.

Aside from Ron's suggestion, have you tried any of the Accessibility
options? If they are not installed:

Click Start Settings Control Panel Add/Remove Programs Windows
Setup tab.
Double click Accessibility.
Click each Item and read the description, select what you may want by
clicking the box next to it to add a checkmark.
Click Ok Apply Ok.

Have you Win98 setup files on hand as they may be asked for.

I'm installing a PC for my mother, she's got bad eyes and therefore likes
to
have the mousetrail. But I can't get it to work. Off course I tried all
the
settings in windows configuration/mouse. After that I installed logitech
mouseware, and tried other mouses. Nothing seems to work.

Anyone knows a solution?

W98SE, full updates, 2 button PS/2 mouse, 3 button wheelmouse, etc.
