Cool

To Gary Richtmeyer

I have a Sony VAIO model PCV-R553DS, and I have the recovery discs;
unfortunately in talking to the Sony Folks my problem in
recovering my computer is probably a faulty "system recovery disc".....
How did you solve your difficulty?

This NG may not be the best place to post this, but I'm getting desperate:

I have a customer with a Sony VAIO PCV-R553DS who was running Win 98SE. She
has wiped her C: drive completely clean (don't ask!) and asked me to
reinstall Win 98SE. Normally I would use the Recovery CD that came with the
PC, but she doesn't have any of the books or CDs.

I have a full retail version of Win 98SE to do the install, but don't have
any of the VAIO-proprietary software drivers. I've contacted Sony and they
stock and sell Recovery CDs for lots of VAIO PCs, but nothing is available
for the R553DS, not the Recovery CD nor any of the software drivers. They
understand my situation, but say there's nothing they can do.

I've done driver searches many times before for other situations, but coming
up dry on this one ... plus, I can't tell what some of the hardware cards
(no markings) and there's no way of identifying the onboard hardware (e.g.
audio).

Bottom line: I need to acquire a copy of the System Recovery CD for a Sony
VAIO PCV-R553DS. I've Googled till I'm blue in the face, but am striking
out. Does anybody have one or can point me to someplace that might have
one?
