Default Install ME over XP

Wow! - Good news and well done. I guess that it didn't take too long to do a
clean install (couple of hours or so?) and if you've got access to
broadband, the updates should only take an hour or so longer to complete.
Thanks for the feedback Daniel, its appreciated.

Yes, you'll have to reformat your drive (and probably first FDISK it, if
it's currently NTFS) before you can install WinMe, XP will not let you
'downgrade' to an earlier system.

There are couple of very useful documents on your WinMe CD, one called
setup.txt file and the other cleanhd.txt which are well worth reading.
You should also print out and have handy, a copy of the cleanhd.txt
file - a copy of which you can also see here :-

"Windows Millennium Edition Cleanhd.txt File Contents"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271673/en-us

Also, you may need :-
"How to Use the Fdisk Tool and the Format Tool to Partition or
Repartition a Hard Disk"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255867/en-us

Following your clean install, try to do your Windows Updates as soon as
possible. System Restore will not function until you do. (Also there are
some 40-odd other critical updates to bring it up to (2006) standard -
still currently available at the MS WU site)

Might also be worth reviewing other correspondence in this and other 9X
news groups regarding diminishing Win9x Antivirus applications.

Good luck

Hi

I have an old PC where I used to run XP, the PC has not been used for a
couple of years, I now have a new PC with Vista.

I now want to use this PC but the only Windows I have that is a full
install and has not been upgraded is ME, how do I install ME over XP, I
guess I have to format the C: Drive to FAT32, how do I do that?

Any help appreciated.

regards

Daniel
