Default computer password

Leave the battery out over night and see if that clears the password. I
looked up 1155 and while there is a Presario by that model number, it comes
with Win XP so I doubt that is the correct number for your machine. Do you
have any of the documentation that came with the computer--bill of sale,
user guide, etc., that might give the model number? If you can get the
model number, you can use Google to try to locate info on clearing the BIOS
password on that specific model.

ron the computer is a compaq presario zip100
model is f-1155v/r9

Mike,

You cannot clean off the drive and start over because that is not where
the
BIOS password is stored. The Zip100 is probably a 100 mb Zip drive and
not
the Presario model number which I think will be a four digit number like
4774. Unless you know the BIOS password, you have to clear the BIOS with
either a jumper switch on the motherboard or by removing the battery.
Post
the model number back here if you can find it.

The large board is the motherboard. Perhaps someone that has that
particular model (you did not say what it is) of Compaq can tell you
exactly
where it might be located. I checked the HP (Compaq) web site and
could
not
find anything.

Look on the motherboard--it should be a round silver battery that
is
flat
and about the size of a nickel or so.

Someone has put a power-on password on the computer. You'll

it and most likely the Compaq web site will tell you how.
