Dell Insiron 4000 Laptop hard drive 10gb failed, installed 120GB hard drive but it's not recognised in BIOS.

Usually you would be able to enter the HD details manually in the bios eg
cylinders etc.
But I also suspect you would have to use drive overlay software, with a
large hd.
Seagate site 'may' have...

Shut one HD of 2 off?

Disconnecting the pwr cable, to the hd, has the same affect

Its allmost impossible to work out what you are asking.
Taking a guess;
A win2k installation that is copied from another hardware configeration,
will not boot on the new hardware without a repair...
