To repeat the cause:

The issue is how 9x manages ring 0 and what drivers, especially non-MS
supplied drivers expect to see. It's not unusual that those drivers are
overflowing memory...

9x kernel and drivers have issues around the 512M mark. The line is fuzzy
due to the nature of the problem. Some configurations are fine above 512M
and some start to puke above 384M.
