Thank you everyone for all the information.
Sounds like I should just take the computer to my house and use Windows
Update from there, instead of trying to find all the updates on the web.

Bob and Alan, got myself the correct cable. Steve, I followed your advice
regarding control panel and network. This did not work, so remebering there
may be a bug in the driver, i took the pci card...

I'm using a null modem cable. I don't know what you mean by a crossover
network cable. Sorry, not to clued up on computers!
