Add Internet Connect Icon on Taskbar?
Control Panel/Network & Dialup Connections. Select the local area connection
you are using and right click and select Properties. Under the General tab,
check "Show icon in taskbar when connected"....

No argument. I'm only saying that, assuming Verizon is his ISP,
news.microsoft.com is contained within his 40,000 (or whatever it is) entry
"usenet download" to the Verizon server.

Yes, I checked it under Tools/Newsgroups in OE. You can access it either
way, but the checkmark is under the news.microsoft.com server account, not
news.verizon.net.

Longshot, but maybe OP's problem is that he hasn't unsubscribed from a
newsgroup now unsupported by Verizon, as they mention towards the end of
their email.

Sorry, but I'm still confused. I realize Comcast dropped support for
newsgroups, but Verizon only dropped support for some subset of newsgroups
they offered. News.microsoft.com was retained.
