Broadband Connection

I have a HP Pavillion 5350 (Laptop) and am trying to connect to the internet
using a USB 10/100 adapter. I can not get to the internet. The error is
"The page cannot be displayed"

I have a Buffalo air station router connected to my cable modem, and I am
hardwired from laptop to router. In MSDOS, if I ping a site such as
'Google" using the IP address, I get a result of "approx round trip times
average of 69 Ms, with no packet loss. If I ping www.google.com, I get a
error of unknown host.

A winipcfg returns with the address of the router, Node type of
broadcast, IP Routing enabled, the right adapter is shown, along with a IP
address. The default gateway and DHCP server address are the same #.

Under Internet Explorer, - Tools - Internet OPtions - Connections - LAN
Settings; Automatically Detect Settings is enabled.

Obviously I am missing something, but I can't figuer out what. Thank You
for any and all help

David
