disk i/o error
dear good folks
as my printer and CD-RW drive are working erratically in Windows XP Professional, i converted the c: partition of my 20 GB Seagate (ST320432A) to FAT 32. then i booted the machine using the Windows 98 startup disk and started the computer with CD-ROM support and proceeded to install from the installation CD. it performed a scandisk of all partitions and said there are problems with d: and f: drives and asked to fix it and i clicked fix. (unfortunately i skipped the create undo disk option). now after the files are copied and the machine wants to restarts for the first time it gives Disk I/O error Relace disk and press any key. but i am able to see all the files on this drive if i connect it as a slave to another working Windows 98 machine. can anyone please help? |
disk i/o error
You can't rely an a Scandisk 'fix'. You need to find to why there was a
problem and confirm that it is properly fixed. I suspect that Scandisk tried to adjust a partition type for a partition it didn't understand. I would recommend completely wiping the disk and starting over with FDISK to create new partitions. If there was something valuable in the other partitions you may need recovery software to get at it. You can start over with a fresh disk by using ZAP or WIPE from this site. http://www.chicorporation.com/support/IBM.html -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "newbie" wrote in message ... dear good folks as my printer and CD-RW drive are working erratically in Windows XP Professional, i converted the c: partition of my 20 GB Seagate (ST320432A) to FAT 32. then i booted the machine using the Windows 98 startup disk and started the computer with CD-ROM support and proceeded to install from the installation CD. it performed a scandisk of all partitions and said there are problems with d: and f: drives and asked to fix it and i clicked fix.
