ScanDisk Problem -- Windows ME

The last couple of times I have tried to run ScanDisk (I
have tried both thorough and standard), it has never run
to completion. It fairly quickly goes from checking
folders to checking FATs but seems to make no progress. I
never see it checking for lost clusters. It does this for
a couple of days before I finally stop it. This problem
just started this week.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For a couple of days, Debbie? You're more patient than I am.

The standard answer here is run ScanDisk (and Defrag) in Safe Mode OR use
the excellent little application program "ScanDefrag" available from:

http://www.blueorbsoft.com/scandefrag/

Why not give it a try?

Hi Ken,

I used the "ScanDefrag" program you recommended ant it
worked like a charm. It took slightly less than 4 hours
to do cleanup, scan disk, and defrag versus the 3-4 days
it took me before.

One quick question, can this program be run from a floppy
or CD-RW or is it best to run from the hard drive?

Thanks a million. You made my day.

Debbie

I'm glad ScanDefrag worked for you, Debbie. That's what it's supposed to
do. But I'm only the messenger who has great respect for the men (one of
whom is deceased now) who saw a need and satisfied it.

As for running the app from a floppy or CD, I have never tried it but it's
less that one-half MB so it certainly ought to fit on a floppy or CD
(although there are a few auxiliary programs, an uninstaller and a help
file, for example). I've just never bothered to try. Someone else here,
jump in.
