Display Problem

I've got this problem with my HP PC displaying WIN 98:

--It starts up good, shows the Windows 98 screen (full screen) twice,
--It then waits a moment & the Desktop comes up but it's only about 3" high
(got a 15" monitor hooked to it) right in center of screen but very hard to
read it. I've tried all the monitor adjusts, no help,
--I can restart in Safe Mode and get a full screen Desktop with all the
icons,
--Of course in Safe Mode, it won't let me make adjustments through the
Control Panel such as adding new devices, thought maybe I'd need to add the
monitor though it's an HP Pavilion monitor.

Any suggestions? I've got my Win 98 SE CD from PC that died, wonder if that
would help?

Thanks for any suggestions,

Reinstall your video/display adapter/chip drivers. In Safe Mode Device Manager remove any/all devices listed under Display, close out and reboot. Windows should redetect/reinstall the device.

Another option to letting Windows install the device is to download the latest updated drivers from the manufacturer for you machine make and model. Save the files to a newly created folder on your desktop. If the files are in .zip or self extracting .exe form, then you will need to extract the files to the folder. When Windows detects the device select to search in a specific place and use the browse button to point to the folder on the desktop with the files.

Display Problem

Brian,
Got display fixed, now it won't see my modem (only searches COM1) nor my
sound will not come through speakers. I can plug head phones into CD and
can hear, but nothing through speakers of any thing, CD, sounds from Apps.,
etc., power on and connected properly. No little speaker in Task Bar
either. That option is grayed out in Control Panel.

Determine the modem and sound card type and install the drivers for those
devices. Check the disks that came with your HP--the device drivers should
be on one of them
