PC freezing for short periods when browsing - Long - sorry.
I'm not sure if this is the correct newsgroup, but here we go.
My system tends to seize/freeze for short periods whilst browsing the net (doesn't happen off the net at all, even when displaying avi files). Certain sites cause the seizing more than others, like; http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/motorhome-list or any page which has moving pictures. Its not guaranteed to seize, but it's a common occurrence with moving picture sites, again more likely the longer I've been on the net. My first reaction was that the seizing was caused by the graphics card (was only a basic video card, either 4 or 8 MB) so up-rated to a 64MB NVIDIA card without any change to the seizing I have run various programs to check for virus's and Trojans without finding anything. I have tried different browsers, again without any difference. Another thought was the modem, but after downloading the 'sites' it can seize, so not sure it likely to be the modem. from what I see and if I read you correctly, the period of
time you identify as freezing is time needed to download the image files. when on a telephone line the best you will connect is 40,000 or so and the very best download speed I have ever seen is 2 plus kps. lag time no freezing is my guess. I too had considered it being a download problem, however I can download several files at once and as far as I can remember it has never frozen. Just seems to be sites like Yahoo with their moving advertising displays whilst browsing. My system tends to seize/freeze for short periods whilst browsing the net (doesn't happen off the net at all, even when displaying avi files). Certain sites cause the seizing more than others, like; http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/motorhome-list or any page which has moving pictures. Its not guaranteed to seize, but it's a common occurrence with moving picture sites, again more likely the longer I've been on the net. My first reaction was that the seizing was caused by the graphics card (was only a basic video card, either 4 or 8 MB) so up-rated to a 64MB NVIDIA card without any change to the seizing I have run various programs to check for virus's and Trojans without finding anything. I have tried different browsers, again without any difference. Another thought was the modem, but after downloading the 'sites' it can seize, so not sure it likely to be the modem. May I thank anyone who has taken the time to read this and possibly help.
