Boot to DOS using your Startup disk and FDISK and Partition the drive from
there

Has the drive been prepared for storing data, either by using the CD/floppy
disk that came with it or by using FDISK and FORMAT?

I'm having a similar problem, although my hard drive was
already installed and working, until windows me crashed
and had to be reinstalled. Now i can see it in the bios,
but not in windows. I don't want to format the drive,
because it already contains data. Any thoughts??

ME won't detect my hard drive

Reboot to Safe Mode
Open Device Manager
Remove ALL error-flagged devices
Remove the IDE Master Controller(s)
Remove ALL entries in the 'Other Devices' branch - if present
Remove ALL instances of duplicated devices
Reboot to normal Mode - Windows will reinstall required drivers (may take a
couple of reboots, depending on how much you took out), and hopefully cure
your problem

Have you been playing with TweakUI?

I've got that problem too with two 80 G disks. If you
browse a bit you'll find that winme does not support big
disks and that you'll have to patch something somewhere.
I've read something about a FDISK64 instead of fdisk.I
don't have too much time to spend on that. Take this as a
hint.

Win Me has no problem whatsoever with 80GB hard disks, you may be thinking of
Win 98SE or earlier. On the other hand many older motherboards have problems
with larger disks. Win Me can handle disks to around 137GB. You are correct
though in part, it is essential that the user use Win Me's fdisk to partition
their disk and not that from Win 98SE or earlier.
