installing windows 98 problems

I am trying to install windows 98 on a computer that
someone gave me and it wants the "upgrade version" of
windows 98. I have windows 98 on disk that I purchased.
How can I get around this and why is it asking for this?
Thank you, Allyson

Probably this PC has already been upgraded to Win98
SE and your disc is Win98 only. Your simplest method
is probably to format the disk and start afresh. See
method at http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/html/w98_restore.html

It sounds like you have an OEM version (says to be distributed with new PC
or similar words) which is designed to be installed to a blank hard drive.
There is a possibility you can trick it into upgrading--see:
http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/html/upgrade.html

This is not the same link the others furnished.
