PING Noel Paton...dual boot problem
Hi Noel... :-)
As you know, I'm trying to do a dual boot setup on my machine with W2K and ME. I installed a new hard drive, which I set up as the new C:\ drive with Win 2K, and the old hard drive with Win ME is not the F:\ drive. For some reason, I can't get the machine to recognize or load the F:\ drive with Win ME. I'm not getting any error messages, and *that's* the bully pits, as if it was getting in my face about something I'd have some idea of what might be causing the no show. It seems to try to load, I get the Compaq logo and all, but, then it goes back to the dual boot window and just highlights the W2K drive for you to select before you turn into a pumpkin.. I tried Steve's (Mow's) suggestion of F:\="Microsoft Windows" in the boot.ini for the ME drive, but, still no go. Being green as a new lime with this my first time doing any of this, I don't have a clue at all what to even look for, and with no error messages to help I'm sorta adrift......or drifty...... maybe daft......any one at this point would fit.... sigh..... Any suggestions? Ahmmm....nice ones....anyway.... remember...it's my BDay.....;o)) Jan :) |
OMG!! She's baaack!
VBG There is NO WAY to get Win ME to boot in a secondary partition! :( ALL win 9x system insist on being the first-seen HD partition, so you need to be able to hide all the prior partitions from the ME boot - which can only be done using a third-party boot manager. (BTW - it WAS your B'Day - all bets are off!VBSEG) email me (you may get an extra b'day present - providing I get back my place in the ice-cream queue!!!) -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Jan Il" wrote in message ... Hi Mow :-)
Steve (Mow) had this at the end of the suggestion ... or whichever drive ME is installed on. ME needs C:, see ? I see......but....see...when he set up the new hard drive with W2K as the C:\ drive, that means ME is now installed on the F:\ drive, so it's not actually on C:\...see...? But....now I see what you mean that ME needs to be C:\. ISss iT MillEr tiMe yeT???? Jan :) Jan Il wrote: Hi Noel... :-) As you know, I'm trying to do a dual boot setup on my machine with W2K and ME.
