A way to decompress .SIT (stuffit) files in win98
I need to be able to open some old Stuffit archives on my windows 98
computer as it would be a PITA to decompress them on my PowerMac 6500 and then try to move them. They were accidentally burned to a CD compressed a while ago instead of the decompressed contents. My copy of Virtual PC 3.0 came with a version of Stuffit Expander for Windows 95 preinstalled when i got it over 10 years ago, so I know it's possible, but I don't know how to transfer it to my windows 98 computer as I did not have the installer. I can't find a win9x version of stuffit. I just need a free decompresser that can handle Stuffit 5.0 (.SIT) or earlier files for Windows 98. Any suggestions? |

Apologies but I am at a computer where I have not yet kill-filed you.
Win98 Plus did not come with a program that opened Stuffit archives and I cannot see that Coffee Cup will open them. Besides it Runs On: 7 (32-bit), Vista (32-bit), XP (32-bit), not Win8 Please stop posting incorrect information. (Don't reply, you are now plonked on this PC) ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows - Internet Explorer http://dts-l.com/index.htm On Sun, 31 Jan 2010 00:05:02 -0600, in microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion, "Hot-text" wrote: Windows 98 Plus came with a zip unzip But Coffee cup can help you out http://www.coffeecup.com/zip-wizard/ "SlickRCBD" wrote in message ... Point of interest: Last year I was working on an older MAC and had been looking for the MAC version of "Stuffit" . After a long search on Google I finally found an old ...free version. Much to my chagrin...the file came *compressed* with the .sit suffix... thereby needed "Stuffit" to install it. Soemone webmaster's idea of a joke I guess |

put finger to keyboard and composed: I need to be able to open some old Stuffit archives on my windows 98 computer ... Try Universal Extractor: http://legroom.net/software/uniextract It claims to do nearly everything, but I haven't had much luck with it. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |
