Fonts Not Printing

Hi,

A friend has a second hand PC that works okay with Win98. She also has an HP
OfficeJet K80 all in one print/fax/scanner.

When printing the fonts don't come out. I checked it with something simple
in notepad (nothing at all) and a Word document (images printed but no font)

Checked Win troubleshooter, and the gist was that the fonts were not
installed. Looked this up with 'The Font Thing,' and they were installed.

Does this sound like an HP issue, a Win98 issue or perhaps there is some
crucial file missing.

Thanks in advance,

Adam.

1. Make sure there is a printer driver installed for the printer and it
is selected as the default printer in Control Panel, Printers and faxes.

2. Start the command processor by navigating to Start Run and
typing
"command" in the slow without the quotes. Press enter.

Next, type each line in turn and press enter after each one.

c:
cd windows
attriib +s fonts
attrib -h ttfcache
del ttfcache
exit

After typing exit, the command window will close. Shut down Windows and
the computer. Restart.

Check the font list.
Let us know.

Thanks Tom,

Will certainly try that.

Been in contact with HP for the last few days, and they seem to be as useful
as a chocolate teapot - however, they have determined that it is the machine
at fault, due to test printing the machine without PC connection.

Your suggestions will help me in some other areas though, and are a good
back up for the future.

Adam.

I was rather hoping you would try the suggestions and get back with any
results. Having ruled out these software-related possibilities, we could
then check some hardware-fault possibilities.

If the printer passes a self-test, then suspicion certainly falls on the
PC side or the connection.

Hi Tom,

I will do that, but I don't access the machine very often - next Wednesday
in fact. Will do as you say, and come back with some results.

Thanks again.
