Agreed.

I read somewhere that 127.0.0.0 is faster (or something) than
127.0.0.1, so I have that for all the lines in my hosts file -
except the localhost one. It seems to work fine; whether any
faster or slower, I'm not sure.


the slowdown is possibly only an issue when using Win8.1
(and newer WinNT versions).

They use(d) "0.0.0.0" in the [hosts] file you can get at:
http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm
Reason given was that ms had made changes in the TCP
loopback interface in Win8.1 causing a slowdown issue. /Nota
bene/ they list a few 3rdParty programs that has issues with this
unexpected redirection.
