You cannot change just the application data folder (AFAIK)

but you can have the entire "My Documents" folder moved
if you right click on it

go to "properties"
then select "move"

It can't be that simple to just "move" or "cut" & "paste" an
applications directory to another partition. is there some data file
in win98se that tells windows programs the path of the applications
directory?

The info I gave you was correct.
If you use that method, Windows will do the book-keeping...

It will ONLY work by selecting "properties"

but if you simply click and drag it yourself...or cut and paste it will not
work
then you will run into problems

I have a new W98se install and just dragged the empty My Documents folder to D:
in Explorer. It seems to work correctly and shows as being D:\My Documents in
properties as seen from the desktop icon (but not from a rt click in Explorer).

'Move' is an option from a Rt Click & Drag + Dropl.
