Frequent Crashes requiring reboot in safe mode

I I have recently switched to dsl which may have nothing to do with this
problem, however that is all that has changed recently in the environment. I
received this error msg on the last reboot: VWIN32(05)+0000206E : OE : 0028
: C02A5246
I am wondering if one of you astute professionals would kindly point me in
the proper direction to correct it? I am presently trying to get a full
backup of "C" so that I can reformat same and change to Win 2000. Any
suggestions are appreciated.

Frequent Crashes requiring reboot in safe mode

You could start he-

"Error Message if Your System Registry or System Files Have Been Damaged"
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;315573

This suggests using System Restore - for WinMe - (or at least a Registry
Restore - scanreg /restore) as a possible solution. However it also mentions
VWIN32(01) and the fact that yours refers to (05) suggests that WinMe is
having problems trying to enumerate (Plug & Play detect) some piece of
hardware - *possibly* your dsl modem - and has detected it as 5 different
items.

So a possible alternative solution would be to Boot-up into Safe Mode /
Device Manager and look for duplicated items, Yellow Exclamation or Question
marks and delete ALL instances of them.

Re-boot into Normal Mode and WinMe should re-detect (enumerate) the item and
hopefully, install it correctly.
