Any Tapi/Dun/Modem Experts Question

Go into the BIOS setup and see if it is set for "Non PNP OS". If so,
change it. Be sure to save the change. You may need to remove and
reinstall the modem driver.

cannot get dun to work with aztech mdp3880-w(u) modem.

installed latest drivers, install went fine. "more info" reported info
from the modem.

When I try to dialout using dun i get : "error 633- modem is not
installed or configured for dialup, double click on the modems icon in
control panel"

When I do the above, it tries to reinstall the modem drivers, even though
they have already been installed.

Tried on of MS's solutions and rebuilt telephon.ini, still no go. Also
did their registry fix for telephon.ini

tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and modem still no problem.
Modem now assigned to com3 IRQ 10

in my Dell dimension bios, there is a section for all the irqs where u
set it to either available or reserved, but I was told that this is only
for non-plug and pray modems and I got a message from windows saying
this is plug and pray modem. IRQ is currently marked available in bios.

Sorry for the late reply, just got these answers to my OP.

If this was a bios/pnp recognition problem, why does the win98OS
recognize and try to install the drivers on bootup? I don't see why
changing this setting in bios is going to have any effect since the
os is detecting the modem card and proceeding to try to install the
driver files? If you think otherwise, please let me know why.

Please see my replies to other posters replies for further
information on what I have tried since the O.P.

It is my understanding the the "non PNP OS" setting if for computers
running systems like DOS or Linux. You may have a situation where
the Windows is detecting and configuring the modem, prompting
you for a reboot, then the Plug and Play BIOS immediately resets the
device, effectively disabling it under Windows. If you are reluctant to
change your BIOS setup, see if there is some way to disable the
plug and play feature of the modem itself. Also, Aztec seems to
have a driver for the modem.
