Phantom Removable Drive

As a result of a much screwed up attempt to install a removable drive (done
right on another machine and working fine), we have a phantom removable
drive in the first machine. It appears in My Computer as "Removable Disk
(E:)" (there is also the C drive and a CD drive). The drive disappears in
Safe Mode. There is nothing in Device Manager in Safe or Normal Mode to
arouse suspicion except a "DOT 4 Mass Storage Class Bridge for IOS",
whatever that is. It doesn't really seem to bother anything but in the
spirit of good housekeeping, how do we get rid of it?
Many thanks,

I don't really know. Maybe... "START button, Run, SysEdit"..., & examine Config.sys & Autoexec.bat for something unusual. Post them, if necessary.

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,

Could it be that the "DOT4 Mass Storage Class Bridge for IOS" has
something to do with the USB stick or camera card interface on these
printers?
