How to prevent launch of 2nd instance of app ...
If I have already launched a particular application by clicking an
associated file type, how do I prevent a second instance of this application being launched when I click on a second file of the same type? For example, I have just switched from Adobe's Acrobat Reader to Foxit's PDF reader. Clicking on a second PDF file opens a second Acrobat window, whereas in Foxit's case it launches a second copy of the reader. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 's' from my address when replying by email. |
It depends on the application. Some allow both methods and have it in
their options or preferences, some only allow one method. It looks like Foxit has only one method and that is to open a new instance, unless you open the second file from a running instance of Foxit. You might try asking at the Foxit forum if there is any way to do it. http://www.foxitsoftware.com/bbs/ ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/index.html On Mon, 15 Aug 2005 18:00:13 +1000, Franc Zabkar wrote: If I have already launched a particular application by clicking an associated file type, how do I prevent a second instance of this application being launched when I click on a second file of the same type? I was hoping that the behaviour of apps could be determined at the OS level, perhaps via a registry setting. This seems not to be the case. I visited the Foxit forum but no workaround was available. However, the developers of Foxit Reader have indicated they will consider such a feature in future versions.
