ME Blue Screen

Hi forum,

First i dedected that the automatic live update of Norton 2003 didnīt take
place anymore although my license is still to 1/6/2005

Afterwards i regular received a bleu screen.
I could dedect that it finaaly came from the Norton 2003.
After re-installing the Norton 2003 everthing was ok till i tried a
live-update and the blue screen was there again.

I had to start all over again and withe the live-update is everthing ok.

Any help is welcome.

Huib

I think you probably know what I'm going to say.........

GET RID OF NORTON!!

Then install something that works better with ME - which leaves almost every
other AV application for your delectation (in fact, I can't think of
anything that runs worse!!).

Hallo,
I probably missunderstood your other comment: "Without exception, all
Symantec products in ME - and also in most other OS's" , i thought you
wanted to say that Norton did work fine with any MS.

By now it is clear, together with the comments under Norton 2004.

That's nice to hear!

I notice that you say that AVG says that it found two trojans in the Restore
archive - in the Temp folder.
This would tend to imply that they were put there recently (within the past
24hours) by deletions or removal from elsewhere.

I would run a full scan in Safe Mode using AdAware, followed by another scan
with AVG while in Safe Mode.

See what you find

Hallo Noel,
I performed both scans as you requested and everthing was fine (removing the
virus in C:\restore\temp can only be executed after after first disabling
the Restore funtion - but that i am sure that you do know).

I am using now temporary the AVG and i was thinking to a package which
combines the virusscanner and the firewall.
Currently i am using Zonealarm as firewall (not bad but everytime running a
scandisk it fails on the tvdebug.log file).

Would appreciate your advice on it.

Nevertheless again thanks.

Hallo Noel,
In other parts of this forum i saw that KB891711 was causing a lot of
problems.
I wanted to know if that could be the reason in my case:
-i deactivated the related patch
-installed Norton 2003 again and everthing was running fine
-after activating the patch the system was hanging again....
-again de-activating the patch and the system was working perfectly....

So, in my case it seemed that Norton didīnt cause the problem but pach

This, just for your info and by now i really donīt know what to do into the

One thing, though - Why blame the patch, when it's self-evidently Norton's
misuse of the Registry that causes the problem in your case?
since uninstalling NAV cured the problem - why did you reinstall it?
You now have a significantly less secure system!

Hi forum,

First i dedected that the automatic live update of Norton 2003
didnīt
take
place anymore although my license is still to 1/6/2005

Afterwards i regular received a bleu screen.
I could dedect that it finaaly came from the Norton 2003.
After re-installing the Norton 2003 everthing was ok till i
tried

a
live-update and the blue screen was there again.

I had to start all over again and withe the live-update is

everthing
ok.

Any help is welcome.

regards
Huib
