I have managed to rid myself of the Flash annoyance by adding the
following user Javascript routine to my browser, Opera.

Hide objects until double click (Flash block):
http://userjs.org/scripts/general/en...s/hide-objects

"Hides all objects, embeds, applets, and iframes (you can add to this
list, or remove from it). Once the page has loaded, you can double
click to display them again."

I have no idea if IE or Mozilla support such a feature, though.

I guess that depends on which web browser you are using
If you want to get rid of the yellow "plugins needed to show all media"
-line in firefox you may delete (or move away) the file npnul32.dll
in the plugins -directory where you have installed mozilla firefox
(at my computer that is C:\program\firefox\plugins\npnul32.dll)

If you are using K-Meleon (faster for older computers) you use the same
method (it is based on Firefox)

In Opera I don't remember there is that warning line, or is it?
hmm.. not in my Opera 8.5. Anyway just turn off the Plugins
in Opera's settings somewhere.

I don't think it is possible to stop it with MSIE, but i guess
noone is using internet exploiter anymore anyway.

There are lot of other browsers too... you must be more specific in
question.

Most flash is advertising so I understand you want to
eliminate it completely, some sites lite www.youtube.com is
dependent of it though... if you need such sites you could
install something like Flashblock (in firefox) which let you
play just those flash you need.

(I might allso have missunderstood your question completely
if you allready have a flashplayer and it want to upgrade
itself to a new version? there should be a way to stop it from that.
in firefox a checkbox in Advanced-Updates. About "extremelly
nasty thing", is flash9 worse than other versions? you don't
know what adobe do in your computer with any of them...)

Not sure you right in this point.. Yes, it possible (knowledges required,
though.) And about MSIE - many users use default browser. Personally, I even
not heard about K-Meleon...(what this? ) What is important - you do not need
install additional programs, and save you disk space. In addition, MSIE is a
part of windows operating system ( unfortunately)..
A guess problem in with this Adobe program.. its buggy, bad software..

The script call is embedded in the web page not on your local pc a check of
installed mime types and if .swf isnt listed display the popup using the
codebase argument in the markup html
You could add the .swf filetype and have it displayed by 'nothing' at
"HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type"
to bypass flash installers
if it works that way

I get a warning box if I rename the Flash plug-in (NPSWF32.dll). I
also get the same box if I replace the plug-in file with an empty file
of the same name. I'm using Opera 9.00, build 8502.

I tested my setup using this site:
http://www.asus.com.tw/

You can disable Flash annoyances using the user JS routine that I
alluded to elsewhere in this thread. Any Flash stuff is boxed with the
caption, "Object hidden. Click here to show".

Th idea is how to implement this for Internet Explorer, MSIE 6.0 However,
Adobe must release fix for this bug..
