windows fails to fully boot
I have a win98se machine that I bought new from gateway. I recently upgraded
the old intel board to a suitable asus p3v4x board. Before I did I accidently erased the hd drive. I fdisked and formatted it. Reinstalled 98se and downloaded many updates from microsoft. I thought I should defrag the hd and that caused the problem. It wouldn't boot so I fdisked, formatted and reinstalled again. Now it won't get past the splash screen! It says I have to many configsys and some others running and to stop them. If I press a key it reboots and does the same thing. If I don't it shuts down. I am at a total loss here. I have a new win7 emachines so this 98 one is going to be just for storing pics and vids of my nephew and music. Any ideas what went wrong? Should I flash the bios? The bios works the same it sees the hd, cdrom and floppy. The 98 cd is all that I used to get it running last time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
