Free Firewall??

Hi all
Been away for some time. Find out Kerio free Firewall is now under Sunfire
and no longer free.
Any suggestion to replace it?? or pay for the full version?? Served me
well for many years.

If the version of Kerio that you have has served you well why do you need
to replace it? Personally however I prefer my first line of defence to be
a NAT/SPI enabled router.

Free Firewall??

How about 'Avast' or 'CyberDefender Free'?
I still like and use Avast, both with ME and Vista.
Registration is necessary:

Free Firewall??

(you and me both, Paul!)
If you're still using ME... then you need a firewall.... BUT are you on
dialup or on broadband - and if broadband, are you behind a NAT router, or a
USB modem????

If a USB modem, then yes, you need a third-party firewall - if behind a NAT
modem/router (which most modem/routers are) then you can pretty much forget
the idea of the software firewall, as the router NAT functions will take of
the hard work for you.

Free Firewall??

Sorry about that, Paul, I know you meant 'firewall' and not 'antivirus'.
ZoneAlarm still has a free version, I believe, in case you should need one.

Free Firewall??

Kerio 2.1.5 (free?) is still available at
http://www.321download.com/LastFreew...keriopf215.zip and is running
quite happily on my WinMe PC's and my XP box. (Notwithstanding Mike's
response earlier)

Since winme isn't supported it isn't really worth putting much money
into in my opinion. This (free version) firewall isn't supported
either but out of all the firewalls I have used I wouldn't use or
recommend anything but this for winme. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1056.html
(outpost free)

I don't really use a software firewall, just a NAT router.

Winme, it is not even close to being secure without a nat router. Even
with the best firewall software. People may disagree but I will never
install it again unless it's 'not' going to be connected to the
internet.

If you can find it install and use windows2000 instead of winme.

Yes, indeed! I haven't stopped using Kerio 2.1.5. While I connect through a
router w. firewall, I still run a software firewall to tell me what wants to
get out. In fact, in XP I also leave the Windows Firewall running in case
the router packs up and I plug in the USB modem, forgetting that I'm no
longer behind a hardware firewall when for whatever reason I disable Kerio
(the Windows Firewall, of course - like the router - doesn't notify on
outbound traffic). The two co-exist without issues.

Kerio 2.1.5 won't run in Vista or later, or in any 64-bit Win version, but
in 98, 2000, Me and XP it runs just fine still.

A personal concern about Comodo stuff: when they use Winzip Self-Extractor
to package their Password Manager (and who knows what else) but include in
it an Installshield icon to make the user think they used that 'rather more
professional' tool, just how trustworthy a security software co. are they?
