Printing Blank Pages

I am running a Lexmark Z45 printer with Windows 98SE and the printer has
started printing only blank pages. I have checked out all of Lexmarks
troubleshooting tips and also downloaded their updated driver - still no joy
! Windows does not seem to be communicating properly with the printer. Any
ideas out there?

Thanks

Moby

First thing to check is that there is enough ink in both cartridges. Even
if you're only printing black text, the color ink tank also needs ink (of
all 3 colors in it) for the black to work.

Then uninstall and reinstall the printer. Another thing to try is a change
of cable, if it's possible to use USB, do so.

Thanks Cari. I have done the uninstall/reinstall and there is ink in both
cartridges. I also purchased a new USB cable.

I connected and installed a different printer (Canon) as a test, and tried
to print. The exact same thing happened. The printer made all the noises
like it was printing the document, but the page ejected blank - absolutely no
marks ! Is it possible there is some setting within Windows 98SE which needs
to be changed ?

What application are you using to print? Try creating and printing a
document in Notepad. The document need not be long. Just one printable
character would be enough, for example.

Let us know.

Thanks. I'm not familiar with "Notepad" and not sure that I have it -
in looking at "Add/Remove Programs", I don't see it there. I did,
however, create a document in Microsoft Word and tried to print. The
same thing happened - printer made all the usual noises as if
operating O.K. - but ejects the page with nothing on it!

I suggested Notepad to avoid the complexities introduced by printing from
complex word processors such as Word. Everyone has Notepad since it is
supplied with every version of Windows. Look in Start Programs Accessories.

Have a look in control Panel system Hardware Device Manager to see if
the USB port is marked with a red X or yellow !.
