SLOW boot
I just installed ME on a formatted hard drive.
Everything is working good except it takes a long time to boot up. It gets to the windows screen and just sits there. The only thing on screen is a green background and the hourglass mouse pointer. The red light is flashing so it is doing SOMETHING, but I don't know why it is taking so long. It takes about 1-2 mintues of just sitting there before the windows screen finally comes up with all the icons and whatever. |
Try Boot Log Analyzer (Freeware) from http://www.vision4.dial.pipex.com/
It might help you to pin down the cause of the slow boot-ups. (NB - it also works on WinME) Look at the 'Duration' column and look for an event (or events) taking several 'tens' or 'hundreds' of seconds, instead of fractions or several seconds. (5 mins = 300 seconds) Also see "Load Failures Listed in the Bootlog.txt File" http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;127970 If you not sure how to decipher the results, you might need to seek the assistance of your local PC repair shop. To be fair, the BLA page does state that " ... interpreting the results requires in-depth technical knowledge." HTH Mart "ray" wrote in message ... I just installed ME on a formatted hard drive. Mart,
I thought I'd see if BLA had been updated at all, so clicked that link. Doesn't appear to be up. Here's a working one: http://www.woundedmoon.org/win32/boo...alyzer123.html Shane "Mart" wrote in message ... Thanks Shane, just found it myself. The old link was working at end of July.
But if it's down - it's down g Yep, it's the same version too. Mart "Shane" wrote in message ... Mart, I thought I'd see if BLA had been updated at all, so clicked that link. Doesn't appear to be up. Also about my system. The other hard drive also has
windows ME on it. Could the computer be trying to boot both? I am planning on formatting that one later anyway. -----Original Message----- Try http://www.woundedmoon.org/win32/boo...alyzer123.html Mart wrote in message ... Minutes or seconds? If minutes, then that *might* explain your "1-2 minutes just sitting there" But you need to identify the cause of the 1.722 at that point. What operation does it say is taking place at that time? Mart wrote in message ... Unless you've got some odd dual-boot command (or software), then no.
..... I am planning on formatting that one later anyway. Disconnect it temporally if you're not sure. Mart "ray" wrote in message ... Also about my system.
