The drivers work but...
I have 2 Win98 SE pc's. One is a relatively new 1.8ghz
AMD; the other is an ancient 200mhz Pentium 1, with a pre- AGP motherboard, but using an ATX powersupply. It has all the expansion cards, video, audio, network, usb; However, my USB 1.1 flash disk only works on the newer machine. I followed the exact same installation routine and the new machine picked it up first time. However the old machine freezes when I try to load any window that queries the drive, whether its Device Manager or Explorer. As soon as I unplug the flash disk the pc unfreezes. The exact same thing happens if I plug in my camera when it is set to USB Disk Drive mode (the camera runs on batteries when it is connected to the pc). However, my USB mouse works fine. The USB/PCI expansion card I got for the old pc is a no- name brand (OPTi to be exact) OHCI controller card; 2x USB 1.1 ports. The flash disk and camera both came with drivers which installed properly. Please reply even if you (think you) don't know what's wrong. Thanks in advance. |
