replacing AVG 6 free with AVG 7 free
I understand that I need to uninstall the old AVG 6 before
installing AVG 7, but I have questions (had a BAD uninstall experience with my former anti-virus NAV): what is the best way to do this properly so that there are no conflicts and so I'm not unprotected at any point? Will the sequence below work, and do I need to delete any files after the uninstall of 6.0? I have not done this before. Thank you for any advice/comments. 1. create a new folder on my desktop and download AVG 7 there (the old version was also installed on my desktop) 2. disconnect from internet 3. turn off all real time protection for AVG 6 4. uninstall AVG 6 from Add/Remove programs 5. install AVG 7 |
On installing AVG 7, it should uninstall AVG 6 and save
most of your original settings. I have done this with no problems. But beware!!!!!! .... AVG 7 has glitches, so, check the Gritsoft forum. so long AVG 6 forever!!!!! yours grayman -----Original Message----- I understand that I need to uninstall the old AVG 6 before installing AVG 7, but I have questions (had a BAD uninstall experience with my former anti-virus NAV): what is the best way to do this properly so that there are no conflicts and so I'm not unprotected at any point? Today I got an alert saying that AVG 6 will be discontinued and
received offer for AVG 7 free edition. So I downloaded AVG ver 7.298 and tried to install. But I could not install it on my system. After the step that installation checked the system, it said "Attention! ......... AVG Free edition is for home user only....It cannot be installed on any server such as mail server, file etc." Then it just stopped without completing the installation. I am using Win2k and running smtp server of my own just to send out my own emails. I tried again shutting down IIS smtp server and try installing again, does not work. I also tried uninstalling AVG 6 I was using, and this does not work either. Does AVG doing this so I have to buy their software? They should make it work for non-commercial home user as they say. Anyone has this problem? Let me know the solution if you know any. grayman wrote: On installing AVG 7, it should uninstall AVG 6 and save most of your original settings.
