CD ROM drive
the CD ROM drive on my computer won't read any disks. A
yellow light comes on under the drive, but that's it. I've tried more than one, just in case it was the disk itself, but I always get an error message. Either "Device not ready" or "No disk in drive." I looked in settingscontrol panelsystemsdevice manager and it said that it was running without problems. any ideas on what's wrong with my CD ROM drive? |
CD ROM drive
Hi Natasha,
The problem could be your CD-ROM drive or the MotherBoard, if not the cables. Again, it could even be a problem with the Operating System (Win 98 in this case) itself. To check whether it is an OS issue, try to boot the machine with a bootable CD.( The Win 98 CD should do).If it boots up fine, then there is nothing wrong with the drive. It should be a problem with the OS - You may have to reinstall the CDROM drivers or reinstall the OS itself at times. If it doesn't boot from the CD, then try cleaning the drive with a CD cleaner (which is available with any computer vendor). Also, reseat the CD drive cables and check out. If that too doesn't work, try the CD drive in a different system, just to isolate the issue between the device and the system. Depending on that, you may have to replace the parts. Please follow the above steps and post the results, so that we could proceed based on it.
