Successful AWE64 ISA PnP installation!
 

Recently, I posted a message to this newsgroup, the subject was -

ISA Plug and Play not working (clean install)

I am very pleased to say that I have fixed the problem: I am now able
to insert an AWE64 ISA PnP sound card inside the Win98SE PC, and the
PC correctly identifies it, and everything appears to be working
great.

Summary of fixed problem: I think that the Value AWE64 card that I was
using (before a 2nd AWE64 *gold* card arrived this morning for me to
test) may have been faulty. Carefully examining one the only
configurable jumper, which allows the user to disable midi
functionality (I think), it looked damaged. Also, perhaps the "ISA
slot pins" were dirty, I'm not too sure, maybe it also needed
cleaning?

I'd really like to thank everyone on this newsgroup forum who took the
time to help me out with this problem, I'm so grateful for all the
really excellent advice I received.

Well, we are certainly glad to hear that. Check those cleaning techniques if
intending to use that card in the future, also look at that older driver
offered on Creative [you now have the link].

The above utility creates an "AWE64 EEprom Flash utility and Driver"
diskette. The EEPROM contains the card's PnP ID.

I'm looking for one more ISA-based sound card -- I have a nice non-PnP
SB16, so I was looking for something a bit different to a SB...)

Thanks a lot! It looks quite technical - I'll have to study this very
carefully.
I made an offline .Txt file of those URLs you gave me the other day,
and I've already downloaded 9 AWE64 patches that look very useful. I
have *always* wanted to know where a really good SB support website
was, but stupid me, could never find one. (I thought Creative had
stopped downloads for their legacy drivers and patches etc.)

There's a definite possibility I may need to use those cleaning
techniques! In my other Win98 box I'm building from scratch, I have a
QDI Advance 9 mobo, and one of the ISA slots looks very dusty.

Hehehe, this new hobby is very time consuming!
