Windows 98SE & Linksys
I have Linksys set up for my laptop, but have an older computer with Win.98SE
on it. I have connected an ethernet cable from the computer to one of the ports on the Linksys, but cannot get a connection. I can connect directly too my ISP's Zoom, but cannot connect thru Linksys....can't seem to get much help from my ISP or Linksys. Suggestions anyone? |

If you can connect to the ISP from the computer then you need to check and/or set some things, look there and ask questions related to what you find there if you have issues or additional questions: http://peoplescounsel.org/ref/gen/se...NETWORKING.htm -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.org/ref/windows-main.htm Windows Info, Diagnostics, Security, Networking http://peoplescounsel.org The "real world" of Law, Justice, and Government ___--- |

The TCP/IP properties of your win-98 system must be set as follows: IP Address: Obtain an IP address automatically DNS Configuration: Enable DNS You might have to enter a DNS server address in the "DNS Server Search Order". If you don't know what to put there, then put these: 4.2.2.2 4.2.2.1 Gateway: one of the following: 192.168.0.1 192.168.1.1 192.168.2.1 (try them one at a time until one of them works) WINS configuration: Disable WINS Bindings: Client for Microsoft Network So basically there will be some trial and error with the Gateway setting. |
