Can't change monitor to more than 16 colors
 

I hope anyone can help me. I recently upgraded an old Compaq Presario 5423
with a MV520 monitor from Win98 to ME, as it needed a re-formatting, and
everyhtinh looked fine except for the monitor. I can't change the settings to
more than 16 colors and the pictures look horrible.
I already removed the monitor, the adapter and let it configure it on its own
to no avail. I don't know what to do.

Help!!

You first need to ensure that you are using the correct graphics driver.
If you haven't already done so download and install the latest Win Me
compatible video driver for your graphics card and when you've done that
you should find yourself able to select a higher colour depth.
