problem using Ghost in DOS on win98 machine

I have a problem with all versions of Ghost,Ghostpe,Ghost2003 using a
USB attached HDD.

I want to clone the internal laptop drive to the USB attached drive.

I had trouble finding DOS drivers that would recognize the USB drive.

I found a good, and well known, site for this:
http://www.bootdisk.com/usb.htm

One of the options is the "Datoptic system" where you d/l a floppy
image : http://www.bootdisk.com/usb.htm .It's a Windows startup disk
with some added USB drivers for DOS.

It works.I can browse the USB HDD's files in DOS.

But there is a problem with Ghost. In the dialogue box in which you
select which drive you want to image,it only shows the IDE drive. But
when you selct the destination for the image file, the drop down menu
shows all the drives.

So,I CAN select the IDE drive and then find the USB drive in order to
tell Ghost where to put the .gho image file. But I can't just clone the
drive. Also,Ghost won't see the USB drive if I want to do clone from the
USB to the IDE.I can however find an image file on the USB
drive, because the dialogue box is a different one. That one looks like a
standard browse box in Windows. The box that will show only the internal
drives is the one that just shows the physical drives, not
partitions. You click on the drive and then it shows the partitions.

Anyone know why this is happening?Since the USB controller is seen by
DOS and in one of the Ghost views, does this mean it is NOT a driver
issue?Any ideas?
