I am going to have to format my daughters PC. Where do I go to get the
drivers to put back in? Am I going to need one for the sound card, modem, etc. as well? |

You get them from the manufacturers. You'll need a set for the motherboard
and separate ones for the cards you have installed (any "onboard" devices are covered by the motherboard drivers.) -- Gary S. Reformatting and reinstallation are covered at http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/html/w98_restore.html with good check lists (e.g. locate and record the product before you reformat i.e. wipe out the old Registry . . . ) Before reformatting you should also review all the device manufacturers likely to have upgraded drivers (for modem, audio, video etc.) since 1998 when Windows drivers were burned to your system CD, and download and park these on an accessible drive. If you find a manufacturer has no Win98 drivers still available, it might be prudent to identify currently loaded drivers via / control panel / system / device manager / [each device] / properties and save spare copies, just in case of need. (This is specially important for laptops which often need custom drivers.) -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

I'm just getting caught up on my e-mail.
I was curious about your comment (quoted below) to "save" copies of drivers. How would one go about this? Thanks, Dan -- ----------- Thousands of years ago cats were worshipped as gods. Drivers, unless already included in Windows, have installation files, or at
least a few files that go together that you point the drivers installer to, usually downloaded in a ZIP file that you have to Extract. Those are the files to save. -- Gary S.
