HELP! BT Voyager 220V/2091
Evening all,
I have a slight predicament. In the house, my brother in law has both the above routers, the 220v is wired, the other wireless, he gets broadband through his company, but at present, can only be used on his laptop. I have a PC that currently runs Windows 98 1st edition, but the minimum software for the above routers is Win98 SE. Im just wanting to know, is there any way of getting either of them to work on my PC? ive tried downloading the router software manually from the disks (as auto setup just says incorrect OS), but it doesnt want to work. I bought an OEM copy of Win98 SE hoping to just replace my current OS, but as theres already a version of Win98, i cant install it. Is there a way of removing my corrent OS and get SE on? or is there something i can download to get my problem solved? Thanks for your time guys Luke |

Thanks for your time guys Luke Luke.Davis Does your Win98 PC have an Ethernet connection? If it does, the 2091 comes with an Ethernet cable (Yellow one) and once you connect the two together it should work. You DO NOT have to load any Yahoo software for the Ethernet connection to work but you may have to set some LAN or reconfigure some network settings. TIP. Ensure the 2091 is up and running before powering up the Win 98 PC otherwise the PC does not see the Internet. Alan |
Cheers Alan,
Unfortunately, the PC is an old Tiny one and didn't come with the Ethernet connection - not sure if i could pick one up for next to nothing or not....the PC was pretty much given to me, so not wanting to spend much on it! Just leaves me with the USB connection - The other unfortunate thing is, it wont connect through dial up either, not sure why! with the broadband, BT gave us a couple of free dial up numbers, but always tells me the remote computer dialed doesn't respond! very anoying! I may just scrap the PC and get another one! i cant afford anything new, so just go for a lowish spec Win ME or something - we only really want it as the internet through the brothers laptop is very restricted (Ebay and Hotmail etc are blocked!) |

Luke.Davis Well, the 2091 can run with the USB connection (Blue cable this time) but unfortunately Win98 is not very good at USB. The following web site may help you resolve some issues http://www.usbman.com/. Try scrolling down and looking on the left for trouble shooter to check you have everything set up correctly. In terms of the dialup not working, ensure the Firewall is not blocking things. Disable it for a few mins whilst you try it if all else fails and then don't forget to reactivate it! Alan |
