System resources low/memory usage low
Noel: Thanks for responding - I was hoping you would, you
helped me tremendously with a system restore problem some months ago. I will try the various things you mentioned & will let you know, but don't be surprised if it's a couple of days -- lots of other work to do. On the other hand, if the computer can't run some things, I'll have to get this fixed first! Today I couldn't even scan a picture in because it said it was low on resources or memory. Grrr. Thanks again. Nancy -----Original Message----- Neither your memory usage, nor the resources in use are a problem. I suspect that you may have driver problems, or spyware problems.... Such errors are often caused by spyware - download AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to remove spyware, adware, and other such nasties from your system. look here for instructions on how to clean up your startup axis, preventing unnecessary programs loading http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php Check out your drivers by rebooting to Safe Mode, and opening Device Manager there Remove ALL error-flagged devices Remove ALL entries in the 'Other Devices' branch if present Remove ALL instances of any duplicated entries (ignoring one in System Devices for the moment Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall required drivers See if that helps, and post back with your results. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's or http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/f...2001/Mar01/Mar 27pmvp.asp "nketz" wrote in message ... I'm not sure this is the right newgroup (software, power management, etc.), but here goes. AOL was running slow, couldn't get calendar to load. After tinkering w/ offline storage (as AOL instructed me too), no better. Called and he had me look at AOL system info & he said these 2 things were a problem. Memory is at 74% load and system resources 53% free. This was after shutting down all programs that may startup on starting computer. I try to keep that area cleaned out anyway. I scanned for virus. Nothing. I have a lot of digital pictures stored, but he said that's hard drive and nothing to do w/ this. (I'm still going to copy them to CD) Any ideas? Thanks for any help. . |
