I just ran across your conversation thread from July 31, 2007 that is
close to a problem I’m having.
I upgraded to the Nvidia 5200 several months back and had good results
with it for a couple months. Then it began to fail in odd ways so I
upgraded it to the BFG Tech version of “Nvidia GeForce 6200 OC.”

This works well except if / when my system starts to go to sleep and
puts up the screen saver, it will lock up. The only way to get it back
is to cycle power.

Can someone give me the skinny on how to surmount? I don't even
remember how to change the timer for putting up the screen saver.

Also I noticed Ogg was looking for “a *new* barebone system just old
enough to still
support WinME.” I may have some good news. This Spring I built a
little PC for daur., using a new Intel DG33BU mob, Dual Core CPU, on
board video, on board HD audio, etc. In setting its CMOS, I came
across an interesting feature that allowed it to be used with old OS’s
via mimicking an old BIOS or some such. I installed XP pro SP2 with
out making use of this feature so maybe it is intended for win2K, NT4,
winME, DOS, ??

I know this sounds so basic, but check Nvidia for a driver update.

Earlier I went to follow rrwoods advice as given in
http://forums.nvidia.com/lofiversion...php?t5247.html. This led to
looking again at the BFG drivers cd that came with this adapter. The
win9x/winME directory of the CD had no specific entry for fx6200,
fx5800 was as high as it went. It did have one for win2K so, after
using system restore to make a checkpoint, I let it rip as described
in the directory readme file.

The install took. The system boots with w.o. error messages but the
desktop doesn't look like tue usual Active Desktop with my usual
Yosemite background picture.
I shut it down as I had to get to work but now I'm testing to see what
happens when ( and if) the screen saver activates. Bingo - it just
activated ( the time interval was about ten minutes). These drivers
only put up a portion of the photo the previous set put up.

Later on, time not known, the screen went black and could not be
brought back by mouse or keyboard activity.

Upon cycling power, the system restarted with Scan Disk doing its
thing on drive C.

The monitor, keyboard and mouse for this system are managed by a KVM
box and some slight differences in the box and monitors LEDs are
apparent but the screen remains black.

Mess around with the standard vs. custom settings in the Nvidia control
panel. You might come up with a workable configuration. Reset the screen
saver to 1 minute so you'll know quickly what happened.

Corday, sorry but I was out of town and with folks who don't like
their ISP choices...
Thanks anyway. - I hadn't looked at the 6200 Nvidia controls. I am
doing that now but nothing really stands out. With the windows Display
aplet Power Options Properties, I isolated the main problem to any of
the four optional shut down features. At first I had hopes it could
turn the monitor off/down but that triggers a lock-up too.
The 'policy' now is to never shutdown/spindown/black out anything.
When idle it goes thu my picture gallery. Currently it will 'idle'
for several days before locking up. If it is used once a day or so
then it seems to be OK.

When I read the BFG box carefully, they don't say winME is supported
at all so guess I should consider myself lucky.
