Dennis,
I have the same problem with 98 SE, although I stopped updating IE 6 in October when I became aware of all the update problems. On the general page of IE options have you deleted internet files and off-line files and also cookies? I will be interested to see what the resolution is. Yes, I've deleted cookies and temp files. I misspoke when I said I had run
Adaware. I ran the spy killer that comes with Comcast. I will try Adaware tonight. Go to your network connections folder. Turn on the option to show the
connection in system tray when connected. Once you have done this, rest your mouse over the connection to see what your connection speed is. Post back the results. Alternatively, you can use one of the test programs at www.dslreports.com to check the speed of your internet connection. -- __________________________________________ Sandi - Microsoft MVP since 1999 http://www.ie-vista.com http://inetexplorer.mvps.org Inetexplorer has changed - for instructions on how to find old URLs, go he http://msmvps.com/spywaresucks/archi.../14/46971.aspx "Dennis H (Portland)" Dennis H wrote in message ... I'm pretty good with the computer but I don't see where connection option is
located. I checked using Windows Explorer, desktop Icon, and control panel. Are you sure you're not referring to W2000? I have that at work and I found the option there. It looks like I need to subscribe to dslreports.com to get the test software. True? "Sandi Hardmeier - MVP" wrote: Go to your network connections folder. No software required - its an online test.
You are using Win98 yes? You need to find your network connection icon, right click, select properties, and see if you can turn on an option to view the connection in the systray; its been so long since I used Win98 I can't remember for sure.. I will have access to a Win98 PC so will have a look. -- __________________________________________ Sandi - Microsoft MVP since 1999 http://www.ie-vista.com http://inetexplorer.mvps.org Inetexplorer has changed - for instructions on how to find old URLs, go he http://msmvps.com/spywaresucks/archi.../14/46971.aspx "Dennis H (Portland)" wrote in message ... I found the icon but there doesn't seem to be an option to view the
connection. I will try the online test this weekend. Thanks! "Sandi Hardmeier - MVP" wrote: No software required - its an online test. You are using Win98 yes? I unloaded McAfee Virusscan and my speed returned to normal. I reloaded it
and it was somewhat slower but now it is back to as slow as when I first reported it. Since this is my backup computer, I've decided to accept the slower speed until my McAfee subscription ends, then either upgrade to XP or at least change to Norton Antivirus. I uninstalled McAfee and loaded Trend as you suggested. Much better!
Thanks. I have Norton on my XP machine. Do you have the same recommendation for software to use on a new machine? I don't have any problems with Norton on it and would tend to keep it in place. Thanks again.
