Broadband connection with Windows 98 FE

Have toshiba laptop and 3Com PCMCIA 10/100 eithernet card. My dial up works
fine while attempts to come up using broadband continue to fail. The
broadband signal is good, the card shows on the CardBus, the 3Com provided
software shows a good 100MBps duplex connection, I can even via MSDos window
ping a "physical IP address". Attempts to ping a DNS comes back No Host
Found. Explorer 6 loads up fine but displays a No Such Web Page error with
any attempt to us it. Netscape won't even load up without a software
terminal error. Eudora loads; but, on check mail it crashes like Netscape.
Seems nothing wanting a DNS works though using a physical IP address with
Explorer fails. I have no firewall and even removed Norton (a full and then
special removal as Norton leaves stuff behind). Still nothing. This is an
MSWin98 OS problem as it affects all my internet applications though the
basics of physical IP ping and WinIPcfg shows the broadband link is good. XP
computers have no problem; but, I have an older system and find the OS must
have some problem which even the local IPS techies could not figure out. Any
ideas??? I even pulled down the trouble sheets from 3Com without success.
Running out of ideas other than buying a new computer - again and again and
again - which I would rather not do. Hate designed obsolescence. Help????
