Using hyperterminal to talk to a UPS

This is probably not windows ME related, since it should work with any
version of the OS, but since that's what I am running I thought I'd ask
here

I bought a Liebert PowerSure Personal XT uninterruptable power
supply. Now this works fine in that if the power goes, the computer
stays running. What I really want to use is the COM2 link to tell my
computer to shut down, but it could never make the connection for some
reason.
Tried different cables, the latest software etc and still no joy.
So I got myself a Belkin (same COM port, their cable) and this works
fine.
Tried both cables with the Belkin and it's fine.

Obviously the Belkin and the computer are talking to each other, and
someone has suggested setting up a hyperterminal session between the
two. I can't even seem to see anything on the belkin even when the
software is showing data.

Is there any way I can talk to the UPS from the computer so I can
establish if the Liebert is working as it should be please

Cheers

Sounds VERY specialized!!

You are probably best discussing this issue with the manufacturer - the
'Personal XT' is not even shown in their product listing.

Try http://www.liebert.com/

Now that I find for one a little amusing. Why? Because Scan are Mart's
local supplier. :-)

Well, Scan's pages do give a potted spec. which includes the paragraph :-

"Everything you need is in the box.
The PowerSure Personal XT comes complete with UPS and User Manual, two
output power cords, communication cable, Multilink software CD, and warranty
card."

which would imply that the 'User Manual' *should* give (comprehensive?)
instructions on how to connect the 'communication cable' and set-up the
'Multilink software.'

I've generally found Scan quite helpful, but then I only live a few miles
away and I usually buy from their counter g However, I would still think
that the manufacturer may be the one you need to talk to.

Good luck

The manual is 14 pages long, but no mention of the software. I think I
will just try and sell it on and keep the Belkin

I think I will thanks. I've looked at "your submissions" and scan have
just chosen to discard my question without even replying. Nice one
