Win98SE - problem with USB printer
 
Would appreciate any advice on this....

Recently installed this X73 --- what a pain. Bombay tech support only made
matters worse - no help - gave me bad info. The website is not much better.
Finally got it installed by following advice from newsgroups...

Anyway..... now that it's installed it works fine. But when I shut off the
computer and then power up again with the USB cable connected, I get a
communication error. When I unplug USB and power up the computer, then at the
desktop plug in the USB, it works fine. I'm not that up on USB but never had
this problem with any other USB devices. Camera works fine either way.

My first thought is that there is a conflict somewhere. But not that sharp on
computers to troubleshoot it.

Any help would be appreciated!

Try going to System Properties Device Manager (WIN+Pause Break) and on the Device Manager tab look
for the USB printer and uninstall/update the driver.

Look for any conflicts:

WIN+R (type) HWINFO /UI (enter)

Thanks very much -- I have uninstalled, reinstalled and updated the
driver and the problem remains the same - no better or worse - which
is, as long as I boot the computer with the USB cable disconnected,
then connect it after Desktop appears, all is fine. Otherwise cannot
communicate with printer.

At HWINFO /UI, there are no errors listed in red. Below is from HWINFO
