Explorer Error Messages
I have been experiencing a problem with my explorer
programs that I cannot seem to resolve. If I attempt to open a folder on my desktop I receive the following error messages. These come in "two's" (listed in order). The first error message (1.) is immediately followed by the second (2.) after I click OK. 1. "explorer has caused an error in UNKNOWN and will now close" 2. explorer has caused an error in DIMM.DLL and will now close. Or 1. "explorer has caused an error in SHDOCVW.DLL and will now close" 2. "explorer has caused an error in DIMM.DLL and will now close" Occasionally, I will also get another similar error message, but with the error occurring in KERNEL32.DLL. I have ran a virus scan, Ad-aware 6.0, Spybot but have no adverse programs. I even removed unneeded start-up programs (virus scan, firewall) to free up RAM, just in case that was the issue (which did not help). Also, I did a non-destructive reload of windows ME (that did not help). I did do a destructive reload of ME (wrote zero's to the hard drive), which helped for about two weeks, although now the same problems persist. I cannot run a system restore (it says that the restore was unsuccessful and the try a later restore point - with also does not work). I have attempted to extract the .dll files as well as the explorer.exe but I also keep getting a message saying that they a "write protected." I have accessed windows in SAFE-MODE, and I do not experience the same problems with the explorer program there. As this problem is becoming very aggrevating (as I cannot access my folders, nor most of my computer), and help that can be offered as to the cause of these errors is greatly appreciated. __________________ OS: ME 4.90.3000 HD: 6.0 GB Mem: 159 MB RAM |
