HP Pavilion 8250 stuck in 16 colors
Hey, all
I'm helping my friends get their computer set up, but have encountered a display problem that I really don't know how to get around. They have an HP Pavilion 8250, 266 Celeron Processor, 48 MB RAM, and what I believe in onboard video/audio. I know, it's a POS, but for what they use it for, it's perfect. In any case, it's stuck on the most base resolution possible, 640x480 and 16 colors. Windows ME can't seem to find a better driver anywhere. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help! |
Check the HP website for that model and download any video drivers.

My search at the HP site for your Pavilion 8250 shows two machines, one for
the UK, and the second for US/CAN. Neither have drivers for WinME, only for XP, Win98, and Win95. There are a few "non OS-specific" drivers. A search for "display driver" for the 8250, at the site, shows this: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...dlc=en&lang=en but only for Win98/95, and only for the UK machine: "This is the latest video update from ATI for HP Pavilion PC's utilizing ATI's Rage Pro display drivers. Those specific models a United Kingdom 6370, 8230, 8240, and 8250; " You may have to speak with HP support about the apparent lack of support for WinME for this machine. Alternatively, examine the video card, if it exists, and use ATI's driver, for your model. -- Jack E. Reboot to Safe Mode
Open Device Manager Remove ALL Display Adapters Remove ALL Monitors Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall the existing drivers - hopefully curing your problem. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Delos" wrote in message lkaboutsoftware.com...
