I GIVE UP
Other than suggesting it may be a graphics problem I have not gotten
any assistance with these bsod's and they have got to go. I reinstalled 2 different GeForce cards, the Voodoo and the onboard i810 (not necessarily in that order) and the bsod's persist. The bsod's began months after any graphics change (installed a Voodoo card over onboard i810). OS is HP WinMe, can I install MS upgrade Me over this and retain my installed programs and configuration ? if so, how ? Thanks -- Keyboard not detected Press F1 to continue |

When do the BSOD's happen and what is the error message ? Shouldn't be anything more useful in Full or Upgrade WinME compared to
HP's version, at least for the HP system(s) it was built for. More convenient in some respects, certainly. As mentioned, your on-board video should be disabled in the System BIOS if you're using a discrete card. While you're in there may as well set Shared Memory to zero, and look for a "Primary VGA Adapter" to set to whatever. Then go back into DeviceManager and rip out the obsoleted entries. If you get around to it, reseat the cards in your box. 0e 0028's are most commonly graphics-related errors (and occasionally network) Rick TheRealFastlane wrote: On Tue, 23 Aug 2005 14:49:28 -0400, Rick T wrote: TheRealFastlane wrote: Other than suggesting it may be a graphics problem I have not gotten any assistance with these bsod's and they have got to go. Only video setting in bios is AGP or PCI and the machine will run only
when PCI is selected even when using the onboard adapter. Nothing for shared memory and PCI has settings for shadow rom, busmaster and timeslice (different term used in bios). Have two different sets of instructions from 2 different HP techs for installing pci in this model/version and neither of them maatch what actually happens. Numerous user questions about disabling onboard when installing different brand/model video cards in the HP support forums but never a definitive answer, at least for this series pavilion. Soooo guess I'll backup what aint replaceable and go with the MS upgrade ME. Should I disable system restore before running setup from the CD ? Should I run setup from the root or windows folder on the CD ? Any other suggestions regarding this install ? for the i810, AGP would be the on-board, PCI the discrete.
Settings should be in Advanced tab. There are a number of updates including BIOS on HP's site; I'd suggest taking advantage of them prior to any OS changing. Have added device=*vfat and device=*vmcpd to system.ini [enh386] block, no affect. Since been numerous scanreg /restore or /fix, best case scenario so far, disable second display adapter, after vfat bsod, boot dos, scanreg /fix, bootlog, bootlog again (windows complains, failed to start last try), scandisk, regclean, pray. Have Everest, Sisoft, and/or hijackthis if wanted/needed. Not attempting to be argumentative but HP windows is not "the same" as MS, it is similar is a valid statement. I GIVE UP
probably to late to help on the origanal post but might be of use to others
like me who have had similar problems. like installing 5 or 6 differant brand cards sometimes 2 at once for 4 monitor game play. Visit the DriverHeaven website at http://www.driverheaven.net and download a program called Driver Cleaner 2. It Scans your system and the registry and removes all trace of video card drivers, any brand. Allows for clean video driver install. Also will backup every thing it removes incase results are worse. wich isn't likely. its amazing how something so little can impact system performance. -----| piMp-aSs |----- "TheRealFastlane" wrote: Other than suggesting it may be a graphics problem I have not gotten any assistance with these bsod's and they have got to go.
