Win98 Not recognising 80Gb HDD

Hi All,

I could use some help, please:

I have an 80Gb HDD which is being recognised by the BIOS
but Win98 Fdisk only sees it as a 10Gb Drive. How do I
get Win98 to regonise the full size of the drive?

Thanks in Advance

matt

Hi Ron, although I haven't read MS' KB docs .. I've got two 80gig Barracudas
running under Win 98SE without any problems. I do seem to remember having a
hiccup while prepping the drive ( fdisk & format etc ) I didn't use any
extra routines to play with the bios .... maybe set the MB bios HDD settings
to LBA ?! I work with one drive and use Karen's Replicator to backup to the
other drive every night. Good luck Matt.

I even managed to get Win 98SE to work with 1 gig of DDR400 memory. Adjusted
a setting in Vcache.

Cheers,
Bernard

Uh..why not?

You say "without any problems", but above you say 98 is not recognizing
the full size of the drive. If you read the article on fdisk, you'd see it relates
to your (non)problem. ;)

80*(1000^3) - 64*(1024^3) = 10.5GB

Sorry, my mistake. I thought you were the OP.
